School Board

 

About the NYOS School Board:

 

The NYOS School Board comprises four teachers, four parents, up to five community/business members, and aSchool Board discussing a meeting together at a table non-voting student member. This group of volunteers represents the entire NYOS community, and with their collective expertise, experience, and wisdom, they serve and act in the best interest of all NYOS students.


The role of the NYOS School Board is to provide governance and guidance.


As NYOS is a public school that receives public funds, it is the Board’s responsibility to ensure that NYOS continues to serve the public, and to act as the guardian of the public trust. The Board meets its responsibility by promoting the mission and ensuring the operational, financial, academic health of the school. Specifically, the Board:

 

  • sets policy;
  • works with the School on vision, strategic planning, goal setting;
  • conducts financial and academic oversight;
  • ensures legal and regulatory compliance; and
  • recruits, hires, and retains the best possible leader.


School Board Meetings are open to all members of the school community. The Board meets monthly at 6:00 PM in the space next to our library in the Elementary Building (Building 1). The schedule of meeting dates is published below and on the school calendar.
