NYOS Charter School is committed to supporting the CTE (Career & Technology Education) students by offering opportunities for furthering curriculum exploration, investigating career options, and providing first-hand experiences through multiple programs, including field trips and job shadows.

FIELD TRIPS
Fieldtrips to community childcare programs and the elementary campus’s at NYOS are an opportunity for the CTE students to bring the different types of age groups and classroom to life. They will provide students with hands-on experience and a chance to observe an education in different atmospheres and at different grade levels as well as increase their understanding in the uses and importance of various techniques, process, and equipment used in educating children. In addition they will learn about the career opportunities available within the Education and Training fields, along with Human Services:

• Typically, students rotate in small groups through different classrooms
• Content aligned with what's being taught in the classroom, based on availability and age groups
• 1- to 4-hour trips, based on content and age group

JOB SHADOWS
A job shadow is an individual opportunity for students to gain one-on-one, observational experience in the Education and Training field. Shadowing opportunities are available to any student taking one of my CTE courses. Job shadows must be paired with documentation

• Typically a single-day experience, although recurring visits are possible
• Fully-customizable options, depending on mentor and department schedule/availability
• 1- to 4-hour sessions, depending on mentor schedules
• Participants must be at least 14 years of age

***Permission slips will be sent out at least a week prior to the observation.**
