NYOS Charter School

Austin Community Centers for Enrichment Learning (ACCEL)

ACCEL is open to students in Kindergarten - 3rd Grade at the Magnolia Campus. The program requires regular attendance and participation in the academic programming.

ACCEL Vision:  All schools will be community learning centers, opening minds by building knowledge and acceptance of the world through academic enrichment.

ACCEL Mission:  The ACCEL program aspires to accelerate student achievement and wellness through out-of-school learning opportunities.

Overview:  The ACCEL Program receives grant money from the Texas Education Agency to provide after-school and summer programs for a co-op of three charter schools in Austin: Cedars International Academy, Eden Park Academy and NYOS Charter School (Magnolia McCullough Campus).

Goals and Objectives

Goal 1:  Provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help children meet State and local student academic achievement standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and mathematics.

Objective 1

At least 85% of students at ACCEL Program schools will pass all tests on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exams.

Objective 2

At least 85% students will pass and demonstrate proficiency in reading, mathematics, science and social studies.

Objective 3

At least 99% of students at ACCEL Program schools will be promoted to the next grade level so that students stay on track for timely graduation.

Goal 2: Offer students a broad array of additional services, programs and activities, such as youth development activities, drug and violence prevention programs, counseling programs, art, music, physical education and fitness programs, and technology education programs that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students.

Objective 4

At least 150 students (60% of participants) will attend the ACCEL Program a minimum of 80% of the program time.

Objective 5

At least 80% of students in the ACCEL program will report engaging in healthy behaviors.

Objective 6

At least 85% of ACCEL students will report improved competence in technology.

Objective 7

50% decrease in adverse student behavior incidents among participating students.

Objective 8

At least 15 new community partners will contribute resources to the ACCEL Program.

Goal 3: Offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

Objective 9

At least 62 parents and family members will participate in family literacy activities and educational opportunities.

Objective 10

A minimum of 85% of students, parents and teachers will report satisfaction with the ACCEL Program.
